What are some great plants for shade that deer do not like?

admin Reply:

Very few plants are observed as shade-tolerant and Deer-resistant. This short list includes Cast Iron Plant (Aspidistra), Ajuga, Vinca major, Holly Fern, Sword Fern and Wood Fern. It has also been observed that even among this list that some are eaten vigorously when food and/or water are in short supply.

We planted a new Wax Myrtle in Spring and it has done really well. What time of year is best for pruning? It has already grown and we need to keep it slightly cut back due to the location in our flower bed. Also any recommendations on how to prune would be appreciated.

admin Reply:

Prune it any time of year, but now is probably the best time. You can prune it hard, but do not remove more than one-half of its size or damage could result.
