Callie’s Kids
Summer Series
Exclusively for kids, enjoy a Summer adventure into the garden with the family. Visit any of our garden centers the first or third Wednesday in June, July and August at 9:30. Children will learn how to recycle and reuse household items, so start saving your tin cans, cardboard rolls and egg cartons today! Then, come in to any Calloway’s or Cornelius Nursery location so you can plant, color, learn and explore plants and nature with one of our garden experts. Mark your calendars for these Summer events!
Callie’s Kids is designed for children 5 to 12 years of age. Space is limited. Parent supervision and assistance is required. No more than three children per adult, please. Large groups should call and arrange a separate session at a later time. Each session lasts 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Classes are offered at all Calloway’s and Cornelius Nursery locations. Classes are filled First-Come, First Served. Complete the Registration form to secure your spot!

2010 Event Dates:
June 2 - 9:30 am - Beautiful Butterflies
Children will make butterflies out of coffee filters and pipe cleaners while they learn about wildlife pollinators.
June 16 - 9:30 am - Tin Can Tomato Planting
Recycling is good. Tin cans make nifty plant containers. We’ll provide the potting soil and seeds that will grow into great tomatoes this Summer! Children are encouraged to bring their own empty, clean tin can.
July 7 - 9:30 am - Talking Plant Pals
Children will decorate plastic cups with a face, then plant grass seed. The grass will grow quickly, giving the pot-face a thick head of green hair!
July 21 - 9:30 am - Feathered Friends in the Garden
Children will make pretend binoculars from cardboard rolls then learn to scope out the helpful birds in our gardens. Children are encouraged to bring their own empty cardboard rolls.
August 4 - 9:30 am - Mighty Texas Trees
Children will make leaf rubbings from four of Texas’ popular trees. Then they color a drawing of a Live Oak and learn ways to identify the mighty trees of Texas.
August 18 - 9:30 am - Eggscellent Flowers
Children will make flowers from egg cartons and pipe cleaners while they learn to identify several popular Texas flowers. Children are encouraged to bring their own empty egg carton.

Hello:
I would like to request a clinic for a local mom’s group in Richardson. We are Me & My Kids Moms of North Dallas. We would like to bring the kids in to plant a seed in a little pot or whatever other idea you might have for them to do. Please let me know how I can go about setting this up. Thanks!

Hi Rachel,
We have not finalized the projects yet for our Callie’s Kid’s Day events, however I am reasonably sure we will have a potting event your group would enjoy. We will post more information on this site as the details are available.

Is there a mailing list we can sign up for? I too would like to sign up for these as soon as possible. This year the whole family is learning more about gardening so my kids will love this for sure. We also have a group here in Keller/Southlake that I sure would like to participate.

Hi Anita,
We are much busier on Saturdays, and we don’t have a large enough staff to hold these on the weekend. Please come to our Fall Harvest event on Saturday October 2, 2010. It will be much bigger and last all day.

I was wondering if it is possible for you to do Callie’s Kids on Saturdays for those of us that have to work. My son would be so excited to do this but I can’t take Wednesdays off from work to bring him.

Attended the Callie’s Kids tomato planting today on S. Cooper in Arlington. The staff was not prepared for the number of kids who attended. The kids were decorating a tin can to plant tomato seeds in, and they had 2 pairs of scissors and one bottle of glue to work with. Not very organized. Supplies need to be anticipated for the maximum number of kids attending. Otherwise, it was a fun activity.

Sounds like a fun place. We are growing our first TickleMe Plant indoors in greenhouse we got one line. I think growing TickleMe Plant from seeds and watching how quickly the leaves close when Tickled is a great experience to share. My kids also love the TickleMe Plant song. I think gardening is becoming the #1 hobby. We love it
